Bacon wrapped Dates

The world is on a huge bacon craze right now. Bacon toothpaste, bacon mints, bacon gum.. It's creative, but at the same time disgusting. I'm not even talking about the gross ingredients (artificial flavours and sweeteners) but just the thought of brushing my teeth or chewing on a stick on gum that tastes like bacon turns my stomach.

Real bacon does taste great on almost anything though (whole food I mean). Bacon wrapped asparagus, scallops, jalapeƱos, chicken, the list goes on and on.

So while I think of other recipes to post on here that include wrapping tasty whole foods with bacon, make this one!

You can only make dates look so pretty.
This picture kind of looks like bacon wrapped shits but I did my best.

Ingredients:

12 medjool dates
6 slices of bacon, cut in half -- I used McLean's bacon that comes from pigs raised without the use of antibiotics or hormones, has no added nitrates, common allergens, and the pigs lived a healthy life. Check out their website for information and to learn about the integrity of the company.
24 almonds**
12 toothpicks

**Alternatively, you can stuff the dates with chorizo sausage which is totally amazing and will blow your mind away

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350° and like a baking sheet with parchment paper

Begin by cutting a straight line from top to bottom on the date to remove the pit inside. Discard pit and stuff 2 almonds into each date

Place date on end of bacon strip and roll, shove toothpick in date to keep the bacon wrapped

Put bacon wrapped dates on baking sheet with the bacon seam facing downwards

Bake for 30-35 minutes flipping half way through. Wait 10 minutes before serving

Enjoy as an appetizer or even on the go during a hike :)
