Horny Hot Chocolate

To name this recipe Horny Hot Chocolate or to not...
Maybe I should call it Libido Boosting Hot Chocolate instead? Macaccino? Cocoa Maca Elixir?

Nah. Those names are too generic and boring.

I've always wanted to remain true to myself on my blog and have my personality shine through. I want you guys to know me through my writing and my style of recipe developing. And, well, to be honest, Horny Hot Chocolate is way more "me" than the alternative names for this recipe!

As of today we are 2 weeks away from Valentines Day and I want to get you revved up!

Whether you're a Valentines Day troll or not, EVERYONE agrees that having a healthy sex drive is important for mental, physical and spiritual health. Many factors such as anti-depressants, pharmaceuticals contaminated in our water supply, birth control pills, adrenal fatigue or underactive thyroid for example can contribute to a low sex drive.

Today I'm giving you a hot chocolate recipe that will help to boost up that libido through the aphrodisiac powers from maca root and cocoa!

Have you ever tried maca root? It's a Peruvian root that grows in the Andes Mountains and is technically a cruciferous vegetable. It has a strong earthy flavour and it's most commonly used in smoothies, baking, or in combination with bitter foods like coffee or chocolate.

Here are some of the health benefits of Maca:
· Increases libido
· Balances hormones
· May help to increase fertility (particularly in men)
· Boosts energy and endurance in athletes (but no just athletes if you know what I'm saying...*wink*)
· May help to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
· Reduces symptoms of menopause (specifically hot flashes)
· Rich in antioxidants glutathione and superoxide dismutase
· A small study on mice showed that it MAY have the capability to improve memory

My favourite way to enjoy maca is in my coffee elixir or with chocolate. The flavours are so complimentary to one another that all my recipes with maca all come down to using cocoa powder too. Cocoa powder has also been claimed to be an aphrodisiac. Although science doesn't prove that there is actually any direct influx of sexual desire from consuming chocolate, it's kind of a known thing to buy your loved one for Valentines day, right? Some people ascribe the aphrodisiac qualities from chocolate may be from tryptophan (an amino acid that helps make serotonin) and phenylethylamine (a stimulant that is released in the brain when people fall in love). I for one can admit to being in love with chocolate!

Despite science not being able to prove if cocoa is actually an aphrodisiac, here are some of the health benefits of cocoa:
· Contains flavanols with the potential ability to reduce blood pressure
· Improves blood flow to brain and may aid in brain function
· May decrease symptoms of depression
· Helps decrease inflammation
· Increases energy (naturally occurring caffeine)
· Antioxidants which might help to pretect cells against damage, induce cancer cell death and prevent the spread of cancer cells

This Horny Hot Chocolate is delicious, and thankfully you don't have to wait a long time for the libido boosting benefits to kick in! Drink in the morning before your hot date or sip with your partner while watching Netflix, cuddle up on the couch in a comfy blanket and enjoy together.
