Bone Broth Chocolate Milkshake

I made this recipe because it's hot af here in Calgary. I'm bored and have been watching Netflix in my apartment all day (still in my pyjamas... don't judge me!) because my head hurts due to getting my wisdom teeth out the other day and all I want to do is chew. But I CAN'T because there are gaping holes in my gums! and they HURT!


I've been trying my best to eat as nutrient dense as possible and give my body all the nourishment it needs so it can heal up quickly. Bone broth, collagen, coconut milk and hemp seeds are all very healthy foods that can reduce inflammation and speed up recovery.. So I can chew crunchy food again! 

Some people cringe their nose when I make funky recipes like this one.
People think bone broth used in anything other than a savoury soup is kinda weird. 


But why is it weird? Bone broth is an incredibly nourishing ingredient that can very easily be hidden in many different recipes, such as this Chaga Bone Broth Hot Chocolate for example.
My next bone broth recipe goal is to make sweet iced tea... I'll keep you posted on how that goes.

I've mentioned this in previous blog posts, but one of my favourite things to do is make a damn fine recipe and then trick people into eating it. Hiding healthy ingredients in delicious recipes is my specialty. Like when I made these Chocolate Avocado Brownies and didn't tell anyone they had avocados in them. OR when I made these Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Protein Balls and didn't mention that the secret ingredient was cricket powder... 


Ingredients:

3/4 C canned coconut milk
1/2 C hemp seeds
1 C  chicken or beef bone broth or dairy free milk* See recipe note
1/4 C cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla
2-2.5 C ice cubes (or 9-12 standard sized ice cubes)
honey or stevia to sweeten
2 scoops collagen powder (optional)

*I like using High Vibe Health bone broth that is made right here in Calgary. The broths are simmered for 24-48 hours which ensures that as much nourishing goodness as possible is extracted from the bones. Alternatively, if I don't have High Vibe Health broth, I use my own homemade broth.
**If you don't plan to use bone broth, I suggest a dairy free milk such as cashew or oat milk.

Directions:

Add coconut milk and hemp seeds in high speed blender. Blend until smooth.

Add remaining ingredients (start with 2 cups of ice then increase if needed). Blend on high until all ice is blended and pureed. 

Pour in glass and drink up!

Additional toppings: whip cream, chocolate flakes, cocoa powder or sprinkles.
